A coffee stain that won't brush away, a front tooth chipped on a fork, or a small gap you've learned to hide in photos can all change how you feel when you smile. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on the appearance of your teeth: their color, shape, size, alignment, and the way they fit together as a whole smile. At Boulder Rock Dental, Dr. Thinh Tran and Dr. Jake Ryan help patients across Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Beverly Beach, and Painters Hill choose treatments that look natural and suit their goals.

Cosmetic dentistry includes any treatment designed mainly to improve how your smile looks, although many of these treatments also support everyday function. Our cosmetic options include in-office and take-home teeth whitening, composite bonding, porcelain veneers, crowns, Invisalign and clear aligners, dental implants, and comprehensive smile makeovers. Some patients need one small change. Others combine several treatments into a coordinated plan.

The people we see for cosmetic care come for very different reasons. Here are some of the most common:

  • Discoloration: Teeth often darken over time from coffee, tea, or aging. Whitening can brighten them, and veneers or bonding can cover stains that whitening doesn't lift.
  • Chips and uneven edges: Composite bonding uses tooth-colored material shaped directly on the tooth to repair minor chips or smooth rough edges.
  • Gaps and crowding: Clear aligners gradually move teeth into better positions. Bonding or veneers can sometimes close small spaces without tooth movement.
  • Worn, damaged, or missing teeth: Crowns, implants, and full mouth reconstruction restore both appearance and function when the concern goes beyond the surface.

Good cosmetic results start with healthy teeth and gums. Before we discuss whitening or veneers, we look for cavities, gum disease, or other problems that should be addressed first. Treating these early helps protect your cosmetic investment. For example, we may recommend a cleaning or periodontal care before placing veneers, because restorations depend on a stable foundation. Our general dentistry services make it simple to take care of these needs in the same office.

It also helps to know which treatments can be reversed and which cannot. Whitening and clear aligners don't permanently alter tooth structure. Porcelain veneers usually require reshaping a thin layer of enamel, so they are a long-term commitment. We explain these differences clearly so you can weigh your options. When you're considering several changes, Digital Smile Design lets us plan and visualize your smile before treatment begins. You and your dentist can then talk through proportions, shade, and shape together.

Aftercare and Long-Term Results

How long cosmetic work lasts depends heavily on daily habits. Brushing, flossing, and keeping up with regular cleanings and exams protect both your natural teeth and any bonding, veneers, or crowns. Whitening results naturally fade over time, especially with frequent coffee, tea, or red wine. Many patients use a take-home whitening option to touch up between visits. If you have clear aligners, wearing them as directed and using retainers afterward helps keep your teeth in their new positions.

Bonding material can stain or chip more easily than porcelain, so we may suggest avoiding biting hard objects or using your front teeth to open packaging. During routine visits, our dentists and hygienist check the condition of your cosmetic work and let you know if anything needs polishing, repair, or eventual replacement. We'll give you realistic expectations about how each option ages, without making promises we can't stand behind.

Paying for Cosmetic Dentistry

Because cosmetic treatments are often elective, insurance coverage varies. We accept all major PPO insurance plans. When part of your treatment also restores function, such as a crown on a damaged tooth, your plan may help with that portion. Our team can file your claims and review your benefits with you before treatment. We also welcome self-pay patients.

To make care easier to budget, we offer financing through CareCredit, iCreditWorks, and Sunbit, which can spread costs over time. Our in-house dental membership plans are another option for patients without insurance. They're available at $189 or $240 per year, with a $109 annual plan for veterans. We're happy to explain what each plan includes and how it might apply to your cosmetic goals.
