If a tooth has started to ache when you bite down, a filling has cracked, or you've been living with a gap where a tooth used to be, you're probably wondering what it will take to fix it and how soon. At Boulder Rock Dental in Palm Coast, restoring damaged and missing teeth is a core part of what we do every day. Dr. Thinh Tran and Dr. Jake Ryan focus on rebuilding strength, function, and comfort so you can chew, speak, and smile without thinking twice about it.
Restorative dentistry is the branch of care that repairs teeth affected by decay, cracks, wear, or infection, and replaces teeth that are missing. It covers a wide range of treatments. On the simpler end are dental fillings and composite bonding. On the more involved end are crowns, bridges, dental implants, complete and partial dentures, and full mouth reconstruction when many teeth need attention at once. We also provide root canal therapy for front teeth and treat cracked teeth. That lets us save a natural tooth whenever that makes sense.
We see patients of all ages, from children to seniors, so restorative care here looks different from person to person. A child might need a small filling after a cavity is caught early. An adult might be dealing with a cracked molar or an older filling that has broken down. An older patient may want to replace worn dentures or explore implant-supported dentures for a more stable fit. Whatever your situation, the goal is the same: to restore what's been lost and protect what's still healthy.
Restorative care starts with a thorough dental exam and cavity detection. These show us exactly what's going on, including problems that may not hurt yet. We use modern technology to evaluate your teeth and gums. Then we explain what we find in plain terms. Healthy gums matter for any restoration to last. If we see signs of gum disease, we may recommend scaling and root planing or other gum disease treatment before or alongside restorative work.
Good candidates are simply people with a tooth problem that needs repair or replacement. That said, your options depend on your overall oral health, how much natural tooth structure remains, and your personal goals. For a missing tooth, for example, we'll walk you through the differences between a bridge, a partial denture, and a dental implant so you can choose with confidence. If pain is what's bringing you in, we offer emergency dental appointments, including same-day emergency visits for certain endodontic concerns. You don't need a referral for root canal or implant care.
How Treatment Comes Together
Once you've decided on a plan, we schedule your treatment in a sequence that makes sense for your mouth and your calendar. Single fillings or bonding can often be handled in one visit. Crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures usually take more than one appointment, because each step has to fit precisely before the next begins. Throughout, our team puts your comfort first. We check in with you as we work and answer questions as they come up.
When several teeth need care, we can coordinate everything into a broader plan rather than treating problems one at a time. Restorative care can also overlap with cosmetic goals. Some patients pair a crown or bonding with whitening or veneers so their new restorations blend naturally with the rest of their smile.
Aftercare and Long-Term Results
How well a restoration holds up depends a lot on how it's cared for. Brushing, flossing, and keeping up with regular dental cleanings help protect both your restorations and the natural teeth around them. Patients with a history of gum disease may benefit from periodontal maintenance visits. We'll give you specific instructions after each procedure, and we'll keep an eye on your restorations at every checkup.
Habits make a difference too. A few practical points to keep in mind:
- Avoid chewing ice, pens, or very hard foods that can chip restorations
- Let us know right away if a crown, filling, or denture feels loose or uncomfortable
- Keep up with your regular exam and cleaning schedule
- Ask us about repairs or adjustments for older dentures
Insurance, Financing, and Membership Options
We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and we welcome self-pay patients. To help spread out the cost of treatment, we offer financing through CareCredit, iCreditWorks, and Sunbit.
If you don't have insurance, our in-house dental membership plans are available at $189 or $240 per year, with a $109 annual option for veterans. Our team is happy to review your coverage and options with you before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
