Oral Cancer Screenings
We include oral cancer screenings as part of our commitment to your overall health.
Most dental problems start small. A sticky spot along the gumline, a groove in a back molar that traps food, or a little bleeding when you floss can all seem easy to ignore. Over months, though, those small things can turn into cavities, gum disease, or a tooth that needs far more involved care. Preventive dentistry catches problems early, ideally before they cause discomfort, cost, or time away from your day. Here at Boulder Rock Dental in Palm Coast, it is the foundation of how we care for patients of every age.
Preventive dentistry is the routine care that keeps your teeth and gums healthy and helps us spot concerns while they are still simple to address. At our office, it centers on professional dental cleanings with our dental hygienist and thorough dental exams with Dr. Thinh Tran or Dr. Jake Ryan. Depending on your needs, it can also include cavity detection, fluoride treatment, dental sealants, and oral cancer screenings.
Preventive care helps nearly everyone, and we see patients from young children through seniors. For kids, sealants and fluoride can protect developing teeth, and parents are welcome in the treatment room. Adults benefit from regular cleanings that remove buildup brushing misses. Older patients, including those with dentures or implants, still need regular checkups so we can monitor their gums, soft tissues, and existing dental work.
Many people ask whether they need preventive visits if nothing hurts. The answer is yes. Early cavities and the beginning stages of gum disease often cause no pain at all. A professional exam lets us find these changes while the fix is still small, such as a modest filling instead of something more extensive.
Another common concern is what happens if a cleaning reveals more than routine buildup. If we find signs of gum disease, we will explain what we see and talk through options like scaling and root planing, a deeper cleaning below the gumline. Patients who have been treated for gum disease often move on to periodontal maintenance, a cleaning schedule designed to keep their gums stable. If it has been a while since your last visit, please don't let that keep you away. We meet you where you are, without judgment, and build a plan from there.
Caring for Your Smile Between Visits
What you do at home carries your preventive care forward. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and paying attention to changes in your mouth all help protect the results of a professional cleaning. If you or your child received fluoride or sealants, we will tell you if there is anything special to keep in mind afterward.
It also helps to know which changes are worth mentioning to us, either at your next visit or sooner:
- Gums that bleed, look puffy, or feel tender
- New sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods
- A sore, patch, or spot in your mouth that doesn't go away
- A chipped, cracked, or loose tooth or filling
- Dentures that feel loose or uncomfortable
If something feels urgent, such as sudden pain or a broken tooth, we offer emergency dental appointments, so you don't have to wait until your next routine checkup.
Insurance, Membership Plans, and Financing
We want preventive care to be easy to keep up with, so we offer several ways to pay. We accept all major PPO insurance plans, and many plans place a high priority on preventive services. Our team is happy to help you understand how your benefits apply before your visit.
If you don't have dental insurance, our in-house dental membership plans make routine care more predictable. Plans are $189 or $240 per year, with a $109 annual option for veterans. We also welcome self-pay patients, and for treatment that goes beyond routine care, we offer financing through CareCredit, iCreditWorks, and Sunbit, so you can spread out costs in a way that fits your budget.
